Our Gwendolyn Brooks Lady Eagles Track and Field Team represented the city of Chicago very well. We placed 4th for class 2A at the Outdoor State Championship. We qualified for state in Long Jump and Triple jump (Imani Carothers/Lena Ramsey), 100 Hurdles(Carothers), 4x100( Ke'niya Smith, Tesa Roberts, Sabria Croom, and Ramsey), and 4x200 relays( Smith, Carothers, Croom and Roberts).
Imani Carothers broke two state records. First in the triple jump 42 feet 10 inches. This places Imani as the #1 triple jumper in Illinois State History under all conditions. Pictured is Imani accepting her first place medal for the 100 meter hurdles. Carothers 13.72 is Illinois No. 2 All-Time only behind the 13.54 time from Olympic Gold Medalist Dawn Harper (East St Louis 2001)
In the small group photo, from left to right. Tesa Roberts(FR), Imani Carothers(JR), Coach Delin "D" Hill, Sabria Croom(JR), and Ke'niya Smith(JR). 3rd place finish with a time 1:42.97, ranking No. 2 All-Time in Brooks' school history.
This is the fourth time our Lady Eagles have placed in the top 15(4th, 4th, 5th, 11th) in the State since 2014 without the use of a home track to train on. 2017-18 and years to come look promising for Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep Track and Field.
