On June 3, 2015, the King and Queen of the Netherlands visited Brooks as part of the U.S. tour to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Holland's liberation from Nazi occupation. After a stop in Washington and in Michingan, the couple visited Chicago and Brooks College Prep, which sits in an area first settled by Dutch immigrants in the 1800s. As part of their visit, they awarded a group of Brooks students who are part of a gardening initiative with an all-paid trip to Holland to visit similar initiatives there.
